I've had a few image hosts over the years. Ones that decided to no longer allow hotlinking, or that changed their domain name slightly so I had to go back and edit multiply-illustrated posts to point to the new location before the site vanished a while later, or that still allow access to my old pictures but don't allow uploading new ones. And I've seen image hosts that other people use and haven't liked them, such as Photobucket which has an interface I just can't cope with, or Imageshack which puts up porn ads next to your picture which rather sucks for people who click on it without an adblocker, or Dreamwidth's unfinished image hosting service which I can't figure out. Or ones you have to pay for, or which are intended for specific purposes - game screenshots or screencaps from TV shows don't go on Deviantart.

Anyway, rather than keep signing up for new sites and finding they don't work, I'm trying something I already have, which is the public Dropbox folder. Picture under cut!

This is my character from Dragon Age: Origins, seen here looking stern as she kicks in someone's door due to not having any persuasive ability to talk her way in. She's a dwarf and she is gorgeous.

I admire women with majestic noses. I picked one of the larger noses in the character creator and then tweaked the sliders to make it wider. NOW she is perfect, I said. Though I now wish I'd given her darker eyes, since at least two of her party members have those light yellowish eyes too.

I hadn't thought of Dropbox though I use it for backup or WIPs. I generally use Picasa or Flickr, but damn, I miss LJ's Scrapbook. Their cut-down Crapbook is a load of rubbish which lost almost half my photos. And yeah, DW's version doesn't yet cut it.

She is wonderful! I like large noses too, especially long and hooked.

Maybe a wizard character, thief, or human? Elves look too perfect to have fun with.

Yeah, all my phone photos go automatically to Dropbox but I clear it out regularly or resize the photos. I didn't realise they allowed hotlinking but I suppose they're my photos.

Gwan, show us that one! Though I doubt she looks as interesting as your dwarf.

She looks fab. I like her ink.

I used photobucket a long time ago but gratefully switched to flickr as soon as it worked (2008 for me) and it's suited me (they keep changing it but haven't srsly broken it yet afaik).

It did get worse for a while, during the period when facebook's bad example made all the megacorps wrongly believe they could do whatever they wanted to their non-paying customers, but then people began leaving for the competition so flickr improved their service again. One of the reasons I tend to stick with comparatively non-innovative mainstream web-service providers is that they're actually aiming to be middle of the road and this is one of the rare occasions when I want precisely that, heh, especially as I tend to be using older tech. At some point in the future flickr will probably make bad management decisions again but at least they now have some record of rolling those back, unlike almost every other provider. /expecting the worst but hoping for the best

If you don't want to put all your eggs in dropbox's basket then you could use flickr as a back-up. That way you'd have linkable images stored in two places (and you'd be familiar with a current version of flickr without a steep learning curve).

She looks brilliant. I really love her eyes, but I can see why it's sad that she shares eyes with other people.

I still use photobucket, probably because my needs are so simple...
