Yay! I'm going to see a Shakespeare play this week!

I only heard about it last night; a friend is in it and it's selling out rapidly so a quick decision was necessary. My sister and I are going together. The play is Twelfth Night, which is (yay) one of the comedies and (more yay) one of the cross-dressing mistaken identity ones. (Did Will write any funny stories not involving cross-dressing?) I haven't seen Shakespeare for years and years and this sounds like it will be heaps of fun.

I love Twelfth Night. ♥ Okay, I've only seen it on TV with Helen Hunt in it, but it's awesome. And, uh, yeah, I think they all have some crossdressing. Then again, in Shakespeare's day weren't all the roles played by men anyways, or is that a myth?

Nope, that's true. I'm not sure of the dates, but I don't think British women started working as actors until the 1700s, sometime.

I saw a very enjoyable university production of Taming of the Shrew, where the female characters were played by men as they were in Shakespeare's day, and the drama group had a lot more women in it than men so they took all the male roles. Petruchio was charming with a very flamboyant moustache and Kate did a lot of stamping and swishing her skirts. The actor was rather cute :)
